Virginia House

Virginia House continues our exploration into domestic entry sequences. Layers of privacy and security from the street are achieved through finely detailed screening and cascading landscape.
The site is hemmed in on both sides with privacy and outlook needing to be moderated very carefully. The living areas wrap around an eastern double height outdoor landscape courtyard.

A masonry screen defines this space at a higher level, allowing sun and local bird life to flood the courtyard while maintaining privacy. The house then flows out towards the northern water outlook and views towards the hinterland. Concrete, natural stone and timber provide an elegant and tactile set of materials throughout the house.
