Our approach shapes both how we work and what we design

We work with clients who share our values, who understand that good architecture is a collaborative journey rather than a transaction. These relationships often extend well beyond project completion, becoming ongoing dialogues about how spaces evolve over time.

The best outcomes emerge when clients feel heard and there is mutual respect, trust and genuine commitment to create something meaningful together.

Rather than pursuing volume, we choose to work on fewer projects with greater depth. It's quality over quantity. This means every client receives the attention and consideration their project deserves.

Our studio is a collection of talented and passionate creatives that simply love what they do. It’s an environment where serious work happens, but the process itself is enjoyable. This approach extends to everyone we work with — clients, consultants, and builders.

Justin Humphrey

Director

Growing up in the northern rivers region of NSW, Justin developed a deep connection to the natural landscape, a relationship that continues to inform his architectural practice today.

His non-linear path to architecture began with extensive travel and an early career in healthcare, where authentic human connection and empathy became foundational to his approach. These formative experiences shaped Justin's understanding that architecture is fundamentally about people. This led to many years of practice in residential architecture where the highest level of design thinking was overlaid on a deep understanding of people and their patterns of living.

He brings an incredible level of care, understanding and attention to detail to all projects, and this depth of thought is matched by the close relationship he shares with his clients. Justin believes that buildings should be highly functional, beautiful and genuinely spaces where people want to spend time.

When away from the studio, Justin enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, planning his next golf trip, and listening to music.

Our team

  • Growing up in a diverse community in London, Sam was constantly inspired by the culture, creativity, and contrasts of the city. A deep love for football shaped much of his early life, but it was a fascination with buildings, spaces, and how people interact with them that sparked a lasting interest in architecture.

Before fully committing to architecture, he began his creative journey by studying industrial design, drawn to its hands-on approach, attention to detail, and the challenge of designing objects that are both beautiful and functional. This foundation sharpened his understanding of form, materials, and user experience, eventually leading him back to his first passion: architecture.

Today, he sees architecture not just as a profession, but to better understand people, how they live, move, and connect. For him, design is not about imposing ideas, but discovering them through empathy, curiosity, and collaboration.

Sam Merrett

Brittney Towse

  • Brittney has been an Architectural Graduate at JHA since 2019. Her experience spans high-end residences, boutique commercial fit-outs, and aged-care living, where complex sites, bespoke detailing, and strict compliance requirements demand a creative and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.

Having studied architecture in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, she’s developed a deep appreciation for coastal living and how well-crafted spaces can enrich daily life.

Her approach balances creativity with technical precision, striving to create enduring, thoughtful architecture that responds meaningfully to its context. Beyond documentation and compliance, Brittney’s passion for sketching and early design exploration keeps her closely connected to the creative process, and she thrives on the challenge of translating ambitious concepts into practical, buildable outcomes.
