Hume House
Hume House sits on a coastal point in the southern tip of Moreton Bay, occupying a prominent waterside location. The house stands as a marker to boats heading out to sea.
Visitors to the house enter along the protected edge of a landscaped courtyard. This is the green heart of the house with all adjacent rooms orientating back to connect to this space.
Internally, the private entry to the house from the garage is timber lined and seems to stretch out into the water beyond like a jetty. It draws you out past private bedrooms, and on towards the living spaces on the northern edge that sits right on the water. Warm northern sun streams into these rooms, warming the stone floor and allowing the owners to sit peacefully watching the marine traffic and birds go past.
The upper floor is defined by an alternating rhythm of light and shadow created by a series of fine vertical blades. Muted, warm, and earthy materials are displayed against a white backdrop, which acts to frame curated views out to the bay. Each of these frames are large enough to sit in and externally create a nice rhythm as they punch out from the curved form of the building. This level is all about quiet and calm - a place to wind down before bed.
